Get ready to explore some of the most storied spots in the Garden State with your brave companions and learn a fascinating mix of local legends, lore, and history with the New Jersey Highlands Coalition. Your tour packet will provide you with written turn-by-turn directions as well as plenty of strange stories from across the Highlands. The route for the Haunted Highlands Car Trek will begin at the Independence Township Volunteer Fire Department in Great Meadows. You will drive Shades of Death Road, pass Lake Hopatcong and cross into Passaic County where the infamous Clinton Road awaits you. The tour will include a stop to stretch your legs, take in the fall foliage, and learn about a few of the frighteningly inappropriate development projects that threaten the Highlands. Information for an optional gathering after the tour will be emailed when details are confirmed. Please purchase a General Admission ticket if you plan to participate in the Car Trek on October 27 (discounts available for Electric Vehicles and Students). Please purchase a "Rain Check" ticket if you plan to drive the route at another time. "Rain Check" registrants will receive the Tour Packet PDF on Monday, October 28. A suggested donation of $10 per person for additional guests can be selected at check-out. PLEASE NOTE: For safety reasons, each vehicle must have at least two people in the car, one to navigate and read the packet, and one to drive.
